New Year, New Comets
By Jacob Robbins III
Have you been outside, do you miss the sunshine, the green grass, and apparently the smell of watermelon. Well one athlete has been very anxious to get back on the field.
One player in particular is Lauren A. Coronado, she is a junior from Los Angeles, CA. She was recruited as a pitcher, and outfielder. Coronado has a nice swing at the plate, and can’t wait to hit a run for the season opener.

The Comets kick off their season with a trip to Arizona, a spring break filled with team bonding and hard competition.
America’s pass time is referred to the 9 inning game, this is usually refereed to the game played on a diamond called baseball. Mayville has been on the radar for some time now, had a couple minor league athletes come through this school. Fast-pitch softball has had some bad luck over the last couple of years.
With a new head coach on her second year, she has done some recruiting in some new locations, bringing in players from California and Nevada.
I asked Lauren how she was feeling going into the big week, and she said “I’m feeling great, really looking forward to playing with the team, and just have some fun.” She also stated that “the team has taken early precautions with early hydration and great skills training from Coach Nate Gill from the Comets football program.
Lauren with 9 games played of the 12, has a .407 batting average, with a solo home-run.
We talked about some things that may cause trouble with in a program, and change is a major factor that takes place in every program. When asked how she fills about change she replied “I’m always down for change, sometimes a change in scenery is what you need. The girls here welcomed me in as part of the team, and we really enjoy playing with each other.
Here in Mayville we do not have the best facilities in the state. With a state that has a constant temperature drop on a regular basis, being outside isn’t something anyone in Mayville looks forward to.
But playing in Tucson, AZ with beautiful nice fresh cut green grass, and nice soft clay that gets onto your pants and socks. It couldn’t have been a better week to play some lady Comet softball.
The week started off shaky as they split their first day 1-1
After that a four game losing streak.
Lady comets came back with a strong three game win streak.
Another 3 upsets, but a hard tough fought battle to come up with the win in their last game in AZ.
They had a few injuries nothing to major, but nothing the lady comets can’t come back from.
Lady comets have a home game in April and is looking to set a name with a win at home.
Lady comets have a game in Iowa after Easter, so back on a long road trip they go again.
Good Luck!!!!! Lady Comets
