New Year, New Comets
By Jacob Robbins III
Have you been outside, do you miss the sunshine, the green grass, and apparently the smell of watermelon. Well one athlete has been very anxious to get back on the field.
One player in particular is Lauren A. Coronado, she is a junior from Los Angeles, CA. She was recruited as a pitcher, and outfielder. Coronado has a nice swing at the plate, and can’t wait to hit a run for the season opener.

The Comets kick off their season with a trip to Arizona, a spring break filled with team bonding and hard competition.
America’s pass time is referred to the 9 inning game, this is usually refereed to the game played on a diamond called baseball. Mayville has been on the radar for some time now, had a couple minor league athletes come through this school. Fast-pitch softball has had some bad luck over the last couple of years.
With a new head coach on her second year, she has done some recruiting in some new locations, bringing in players from California and Nevada.
I asked Lauren how she was feeling going into the big week, and she said “I’m feeling great, really looking forward to playing with the team, and just have some fun.” She also stated that “the team has taken early precautions with early hydration and great skills training from Coach Nate Gill from the Comets football program.
Lauren with 9 games played of the 12, has a .407 batting average, with a solo home-run.
We talked about some things that may cause trouble with in a program, and change is a major factor that takes place in every program. When asked how she fills about change she replied “I’m always down for change, sometimes a change in scenery is what you need. The girls here welcomed me in as part of the team, and we really enjoy playing with each other.
Here in Mayville we do not have the best facilities in the state. With a state that has a constant temperature drop on a regular basis, being outside isn’t something anyone in Mayville looks forward to.
But playing in Tucson, AZ with beautiful nice fresh cut green grass, and nice soft clay that gets onto your pants and socks. It couldn’t have been a better week to play some lady Comet softball.
The week started off shaky as they split their first day 1-1
After that a four game losing streak.
Lady comets came back with a strong three game win streak.
Another 3 upsets, but a hard tough fought battle to come up with the win in their last game in AZ.
They had a few injuries nothing to major, but nothing the lady comets can’t come back from.
Lady comets have a home game in April and is looking to set a name with a win at home.
Lady comets have a game in Iowa after Easter, so back on a long road trip they go again.
Good Luck!!!!! Lady Comets

Stories on the Body
By: Jacob Robbins

Imagine being born in the south, then moving to the West Coast. Someone might get a tattoo of their home skyline, and show the transition of New Orleans to the West Coast. This is something that you may never forget but it’s something to show about yourself that can help define who you are. Tattoos have been around for a while now, and before it wasn’t a good thing to have a tattoo.

Having a tattoo in the past was basically saying that you were a thug, or someone who has been to jail, or someone that is in a gang, and a face tattoo was the worst of all meaning you killed someone.

Before in a group of friends, was rare for one or more people in a group to have a tattoo, now of days you might find one or two without a tattoo. According to Derrick Grace II, “I was initially intrigued by body art because of the expression and individuality that comes along with it. I've never been a fan of comfortability, acceptance, or status quo. Illustrating your vessel with your beliefs and story, falls hand in hand with self-expression and uniqueness. I couldn't resist.”

If you were to look at Mr. Grace what would honestly be your perception of this African American male?
Figure 1 picture of Derrick Grace II, this is when he first released his book on amazon
The perception of this man would not be a fellow church attender. It wouldn’t be a good father, someone that couldn’t find a job, or someone that had been in jail for several occasions.

If you ask Mr. Grace what he does he will simply tell you, “I initially created my own clothing brand, Millionaire Bound. Aside from my brand and internet presence, I included the reselling of exclusive and hard to find footwear. From the likes of Nike, Jordan Brand, Adidas Etc. Seeking more ventures and expressions of my true gifts, I published and successfully sold the highest Apparel App ever on Google Play, along with releasing my first ever autobiography on Amazon in 2014 and 2015. My best gift to date, is my willingness to help, advise and demonstrate selflessness. For the last two years I've been diving heavily into philanthropy, serving as a leader, motivational speaker, and visionary for many different individuals.”
This isn’t something that you would expect out of a man with this appearance. People judge on appearance and think that all tattoos are a bad idea. But sometimes a tattoo can explain yourself more than you can in words. I asked Mr. Grace what kind of tattoo you should look for. He replied with “The person you are should shape your ink. These are permanent markings. Make them count, tell a story, and use them as therapy.”

When you get a tattoo you must endure the pain and remember that whatever it is that you are going to get it will be permanent. I asked about some of his tattoos and this was his reply, “Every line of ink on my canvas has a meaning to it or represents a period in my life. I've lost count to this date, but have 27 separate tattoos in my face alone. The light bulb along my cheek, represents one of the most simple, but least practiced powers in this universe. The ability to think. Many people are awaking and moving with absolutely no direction on purpose. They ask no questions or seek substance. Simply going with the flow of tradition and trends. Many of us logically have no idea, why we really what we do 365 days a year. We're moving with an outdated cycle and swallowing regurgitated information. Another facial tattoo, reads ‘The 1’. I'm a firm believer in the power of thoughts and tongue. I tattooed this saying before I covered any substantial ground. 4 years later and I haven't looked back yet.”
What’s done is done

Orlando is bringing a new bill to council with making anything less than 20 grams which is about two-thirds of an ounce a city violation and a $50 fine for first time offenders.
With this being said, medical marijuana has been getting decriminalize in most states so why is Governor Rick Scott holding out.

There are a lot of kids in prison for less than an ounce and know we are deciding that 20grams of marijuana is now just a small variable.
As the final vote is coming up on May 9th it is good to hear the opposing side as well as people with the legalization of marijuana.

Some of the council was for the legalization Samuel Ings "People need to know and understand that this is making it easier for criminals to use marijuana, with less criminal charges and punishment," Ings said.

Most people have lost their chances at an education because they had a little pot, a few years back in 2010 there was a popular trend of kids in high school getting charged for intent to sell, and possession of a narcotic. This ruined chances of some of the kids from getting an education, not saying that all the kids had good intentions for the marijuana.

Legalization of marijuana has been a hot topic, due to the fact that there has been a lot of drug bust. Just last month in Orlando, Fl there was a home invasion where the cops were able to confiscate $100,000 worth of marijuana and more than that in cash.

This was a topic of choice back in 2012, when they first started legalizing marijuana. When this occurred you heard mostly negative things about marijuana but on social media things got twisted around. Since social media works on repost if someone was to share false news, some people share news feeds without reading the full article.

Marijuana has more positive factors then it does negative, in Colorado which was the first state to legalize marijuana they had an increase in state money, and lower the crime rate to under 5%.
The sunshine state has been a tourist state for a long time, what better way to attract more travelers than by opening up a medical marijuana stand.

This can also put some of the drug dealers out of business making it a little easier for the cops to focus on more major crimes and helping the citzens.
"I see this initiative as one step in ending the war on drugs, and thus I support it," said Lisa Tillmann, an activist and Rollins College professor.

The legalization of Marijuana can help so many of those who have medical issues. Medical issues like glaucoma, Glaucoma is an eye condition in which the optic nerve becomes damaged over time, reducing side vision. It sometimes leads to blindness. Having glaucoma means your IOP levels are low and studies have been found that smoking marijuana helped raise their IOP level.

This short period of time is a major drawback for the use of marijuana as a glaucoma treatment.
Because glaucoma needs to be treated 24 hours a day, you would need to smoke marijuana six to eight times a day around the clock to receive the benefit of a consistently lowered IOP. Because of marijuana's mood-altering effect, smoking so much of it daily would leave you too impaired to drive, operate equipment or function at the peak of your mental ability.

When a person smokes marijuana, THC quickly passes from the lungs into the bloodstream. The blood carries the chemical to the brain and other organs throughout the body. The body absorbs THC more slowly when the person eats or drinks it. In that case, the user generally feels the effects after 30 minutes to 1 hour. THC acts on specific brain cell receptors that ordinarily react to natural THC-like chemicals in the brain. These natural chemicals play a role in normal brain development and function.
